Halloween is about a lot more than just candy and costumes. Halloween is a time for children to try out new roles in the form of different characters and build their social skills as well as their fine motor skills with a variety of games. Kids’ Halloween party games are a fun way to keep kids entertained. They also encourage child development and teach children social skills.
Are you looking for ideas for children’s Halloween party games to play at your fall party? We have put together a list of the best and most creative options:
Capture the Ghost
A take on the classic children’s game “Capture the Castle,” this game involves strategy and social interaction. To play, explain to children that there is a ghost in a haunted mansion who can be captured by different groups of monsters. Divide the kids into zombies, mummies, vampires and any other spooky groups you like. Each group of monsters gets ten cards in different colors. Mummies may have white cards, for example, and vampires may have red cards.
The object of the game is to get one player from each of the teams to walk up closer to the ghost and exchange cards with other players, one card at a time, without being touched by the ghost. If the ghost does manage to touch another player, that player must surrender his or her card to the ghost. In the end, the team with the most cards from either team wins. A member of the group with the fewest cards becomes the ghost.
Spooky Scavenger Hunt
Make a list of scary items your little monsters need to find. This can include things such as:
- A pumpkin
- Candy corn
- Any other items you can hide around the house
The team that finishes first and returns with the most items on the list wins. This encourages children to explore the world around them and work together toward a common goal while building social skills.
Designate a few chairs as “mummy coffins” and have kids with wraparound bandages on them sit down. Play creepy Halloween music, and when the music ends, have each child slide into a chair, with or without a mummy. Gradually take away some of the chairs/coffins until there are fewer and fewer chairs, causing a scramble as kids try to get into a chair.
Halloween Playground Games
Playgrounds are a great place for Halloween games. If your kids dress up as pirates, they can pretend the playground is a pirate ship and they are trying to get to land. If another group is dressed as zombies, kids can pretend the zombies live on an island the pirates are trying to capture. Playgrounds offer many options for imaginative play, which is perfect for Halloween.
